Mr Stern and I had many conversations over the years.
After his passing, the business was continued by his son-in-law, Sam Seigal.
Absolutely top person to deal with, and he often still has items from the old days that many other dealers do not.
Nice to hear from you, Sherro. -

The name is still registered (since 2008). It’s probably run by a family trust. After the Port Phillip Arcade was redeveloped, they moved to 271 Collin Street, where they’re still trading.

They still have a website: maxstern.com.au and have an address in Melbourne CBD where you can pick up online orders. They are trading as Max Stern & Co.
I was looking to get a BW catalogue

I just noticed that there are a couple of ebay listing under the name ‘Max Stern’. I assume someone purchased the business when Max died? and still trades? solely online? Certainly one of the great names of Australian philately.
By the way, I’m starting to assemble the Feb issue of PNG calling and would be pleased to have further contributions -…[Read more] -

Just a small snippet from the Sat edition of the Sydney Morning Herald you might enjoy. An article reporting on preparations for the coronation.
“…The streets are crammed, mostly with shoppers…Fortnum & Mason and Marks & Spencer…(and)…The Strand’s iconic stamp shop, Stanley Gibbons, has a window full of coronation-themed lickables.”

Mr R P started the topic PPS email address now back online in the forum PPS Members Forum 1 year, 1 month ago
The Australian Treasurer’s email address (pps_qld@yahoo.com.au) is now back in operation. For the past few months we’ve had some issues with it and all past history has been lost. So, if anyone has sent an email to that address – and has not had an acknowledgement – please re-send and Maurie Clark can update your details.
For information, the…[Read more]

So far, I have 694, 2840 and 2992 from the London printing and 13257 & 13275 from the Melbourne printing.

Rhys Harrison started the topic PNG Postmark Scarcity in the forum PPS Members Forum 2 years, 2 months ago
I recently ‘came back’ to the hobby after an absence of 25 years. I’m wondering if there has been any published material during that time of scarcity ratings for PNG postmarks. Valuations would be even better but I’m guessing that auction prices realized may be the only source for that.
I’d like to get a scan an article that might help from PPS…[Read more] -
Rhys Harrison started the topic Town Cancellation Scarcity Ratings in the forum PPS Members Forum 2 years, 2 months ago
My latest Papuan Pandemic Project is an attempt to value my stamp & especially cover collection. My Vern Rutherford, Roger Lee & Powell postal history books give some clues based on PO opening durations but no one appears to attempt a scarcity rating or valuation for town & special cancellations. Are there more recent references that might…[Read more]
