One of those abundant flight covers with the Tax handstamp. There is no indication that the ms 2d was paid. Perhaps they didn’t want to spoil a schoolboy’s hobby.

Mr R P started the topic OCT PPS ONLINE MEETING – SAT, OCT 31st – 9pm SYDNEY TIME in the forum PPS Members Forum 3 years, 7 months ago
Hello All,
It’s been a while but here it is – our next online PPS meeting. The challenge for some will be the time difference with Oz. Now that we’re on daylight savings (and some in the northern hemisphere may have reverted back to standard time), you may find your local time to be a “bridge too far”. Of well, maybe next time…..
As before,…[Read more]

Joe,
This is a wonderful article on the post wartime issues with ink and paper.
The article in the post has lost a lot of the formatting that must have been in the original article. Is there any way a PDF of the article can be provided?
Thanks!
David

It was great to see all the covers in the current Journal and one TAX stamp I had not previously sighted – Bill Gammage’s 3d bluish-green and black.
Hopefuy Bill can provide me with a better quality scan, please.
Doug.

Mr R P started the topic Apologies for the abrupt finish to the Zoom meeting Sat Aug 15 in the forum PPS Members Forum 3 years, 9 months ago
For all those who logged in, apologies for the sudden end to the meeting. I should have said that you could simply log on again, using the same meeting details. My IT manager (!) scolded me for not doing that before the meeting timed out. And for all those who sent along material to show and missed out, we’ll hold over for the next session.

Mr R P started the topic ZOOM MEETING NEXT SATURDAY in the forum PPS Members Forum 3 years, 9 months ago
Just a reminder, the next Zoom meeting will be next Sat (15th). The theme will be “Postmarks” – on or off cover. However, if that doesn’t thrill you – and you would like to present/discuss anything else, then that’s fine. There are no hard and fast rules to these sessions. If you would like me to display your chosen items, then please email…[Read more]

Just a reminder that the next PPS Zoom meeting is in 2 weeks time – Sat, Aug 15. All details on the website.
The suggested theme for the meeting will be POSTMARKS – on cover or stamps, rare, unusual, maybe not rare but a favourite anyway, “what is it”, “has anyone seen?”, etc etc.
And, to get it started, here’s an item currently offered online.…[Read more]

At the moment, it’s looking like group meetings may be getting less likely, at least here in Oz. Depends on how things go in Victoria (where there is a huge spike in positive tests).
So, how about our next Zoom meeting – details below:
Time: Aug 15, 2020 09:00 PM Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

Details regarding the June 23 Zoom meeting have been circulated and are also available on the website.
This presents an excellent opportunity to complete our 2020 AGM (which is permitted to be held online). It will be a VERY brief prelude to the main online meeting – so don’t worry about endless admin details.
There are 3 items on the Agenda:

A reminder that the next online PPS meeting will be on the 23rd – Zoom details below.
Again, rather than a formal agenda, let’s repeat the ‘favourites’ formula of the last meeting. I would suggest that all are welcome to present/discuss one (or a couple, time permitting) favourite items from your collection – doesn’t have to be rare or unique,…[Read more]

Mr Frank J. Wilson started the topic New Guinea 1935 Forged FDC in the forum PPS Members Forum 3 years, 11 months ago
Whilst in Lockdown I came across a page from a collection that stated that one of the most common forged FDCs from New Guinea is the 1935 Jubilee plain brown envelopes with just the 1d & 2d stamps with Rabaul postmarks. The covers are addressed to J. D. Harris and Son, Birmingham. The postmarks look genuine. Does anyone know the history behind…[Read more]

The May issue on PNG Calling (No 286) is now in the postal system – but….one can only guess when your printed copy may show up. Mail posted 6 weeks ago from Australia to the US is still ‘in transit’ so please be patient. Bwagaoia cds (Lee 86) 15 NO38 (odd but standard gap between the ‘3’ and ‘8’. The address looks to be an inked stamp, suggesting a philatelic item (though did go through the post, so a genuine postally used cover).…[Read more]

Following yesterdays most enjoyable first PPS Zoom meeting hosted by Richard, who did a great job, it became apparent that I am not as smart as I thought I was, and I now believe my wife when she calls me a deaf old f—t. However hopefully I will be able to rectify this.
